Meet Sharon
Working with students who struggle with the basics in school has been a passion of mine ever since seeing the difference a remedial reading program made for my son over 30 years ago.
After repeating Grade 2, my son Daniel was still a non-reader, even though he had a fantastic support team at his school. That’s when we began our journey of finding help outside the traditional school system. We were led to Dr. George Gasek who suggested we take our son to the Lindamood Bell Learning Centre in San Luis Obispo, California. It was while Daniel was at this Centre that I trained in Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes® programs so that I could help him and other children who struggled.
When we returned to Nova Scotia, I became one of the first Reading Clinicians at Novaread in Halifax. Two years later, Dr. Gasek opened the first Mariposa Reading Centre in Truro, I was excited to be able to join him.
My position at Novaread and Mariposa gave me the opportunity to provide remedial programs to hundreds of students in Nova Scotia.
In March 2015, I was given the opportunity to open my own learning center, Foundations for Learning in Elmsdale NS. On June 1, 2017, I opened a second location at 30 Duke Street in Truro NS.
In October 2022, with mixed emotions, I turned the business over to Monique Anthony, one of my dedicated team members. I am still working in the background at the present time to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. As I go from semi-retired to totally retired, I am leaving Foundations for Learning in good hands, with Monique and our team. You will find that she has the same passion that I have for providing proven educational programs in Colchester-East Hants and beyond.
It warms my heart to know that Monique and her team will be providing a similar opportunity for today’s students that was provided to my son many years ago. It is such a rewarding experience to watch a child who is struggling, blossom into an academically stronger student and a more confident young person.
